UPDATE: The Zoning Bard didn't get to review all the submitted documents so they asked for a continuance. The proposed Break O-Day Drive Casino is now on the agenda for the Concord Zoning Board of Adjustment on Wednesday, October 4th, 2023 at 6:00pm. Council Chambers of the Municipal Complex at 37 Green Street.
What’s going on with Andy Sanborn and his Concord Casino Plans?
A lot has happened since our post AMBUSH! back on July 26th after the Planning Board, under pressure by Andy Sanborn, approved plans for a 30,000 square foot gaming hall and restaurant/brewpub which could ultimately include a hotel and conference center at 7 Break O’Day Drive. In response to that approval, two appeals were filed against the Planning Board’s decision, one to the Zoning Board regarding whether a charitable gaming hall, restaurant and microbrewery are permitted in the Gateway Performance District and the second to Superior Court related to the process the Planning Board took in approving the application.
Both of the appeals to the Planning Board’s decision are totally independent of an investigation by the NH Department of Justice and the NH Lottery Commission into Sanborn’s current casino which uncovered potential fraud related to application for, and use of COVID relief funds. This has resulted in potential administrative action by the Lottery Commission as well as a separate investigation and referral to the U.S. Attorney’s Office. However, we can’t stop fighting the casino on our terms!
If you have concerns about casinos in Concord, we suggest you attend the Zoning board meeting this Wednesday. Many of you are aware that Concord is evaluating a new Zoning Ordinance. There is a bigger picture here than just a casino. What type of development does Concord want and where? How do we ensure sustainable and equitable development and maintain our open spaces?
Gratefully,
Concord Greenspace
